If you’d like more safety tips, then check out this video, featuring Scooby Doo and the Flintstone Kids:

Be sure to keep your kids safe at Halloween.  Halloween safety doesn’t have to be complicated.

You can keep your kids safe by going with your kids as they trick-or-treat from house to house, especially if your kids are younger.  If they are older, such as teens, then make sure they go together with groups.  As the saying goes, there is safety in numbers.

Another way to keep kids safe is to give them lighting.  They can take plain flashlights.  Even better, near Halloween, you can find decorative flashlights that look like animals or Halloween ghosts and ghouls.

If you don’t use a flashlight, then at least make sure they have glow sticks or reflective necklaces (such as the kind found on bicycles).  Just make sure there is something that will help your kids be seen by people driving cars.

This might sound obvious, but make sure you and your kids look both ways before crossing streets.  Yes, there are likely to be a huge number of people walking around trick or treating, but do not assume that the drivers of cars can see each and every person.  That is also why having reflective items is so important when you are walking around in the dark.

Those of you who, for whatever reason, find yourselves driving on Halloween evening or night need to be extra careful.  You need to make sure you are super focused on your surroundings to prevent a tragedy.  There is no telling when a young child may unintentionally run out into the street.

When you are driving on Halloween, make sure to put your cell phone away.  Cell phones are known to be distractions, and that is the last thing you need when you are watching out for children.

Be especially diligent when you come up to crosswalks and intersections.  Children do not have the experience that adults have, and are likely to be too excited to look both ways before they cross streets.

The same goes for the sides of the roads.  Most trick-or-treaters will stay safely on sidewalks, but some will venture out in the the roads, at least on the sides.  Watch out for kids (or adults) in the roads and streets.

If you see a car that has stopped, do not pass it!  It is very possible that the driver of the car has stopped because people, most likely children, are getting out of the car.  Treat any stopped cars as you would school buses that are dropping off children.  Stop, and wait patiently until they begin to drive before you continue on your way.

Halloween safety tips are important for pets, too.  If your cat or dog gets frightened by strangers, then you will want to put your pet in a room where he won’t see all the children coming to the door for Halloween candy as they trick-or-treat.  Of course, don’t be afraid if you open your door and see someone dressed in a captain costume!
